Dune minicomic issue 1 - The Beginning
Here's a quick overview of the anthology made in one night.
Dune minicomic night began on October 15th 2012 at the Café Racer in the University District of Seattle. This issue was published and distributed to the contributors on the following 3rd Tuesday, November 19th 2012
I don’t recall the exact time limit that was enforced during this meeting but I’m sure it set the precedent that there would be a time limit of normally 5 to 6 hours to complete a submission. It’s very impressive what folks were able deliver with this sort of restraint. The variety of subject matter, the different levels of skill, the themes and attitudes in this issue ultimately reflect how the majority of the Dune minicomic run would end up.
Here are some photos of the cover and a couple of pages from inside.
Dune volume 1 number 1 - November 2012 - cover art by Eroyn Franklin
Opening comic page by Michael Litven
(L) Carl Nelson talks about “Dune” by Frank Herbert (no relation) (R) Mark Falkey
(L) Tim Miller (R) Michael Litven again
(L) Dune minicomics founder Max Clotfelter - (R) Marc Palm
It’s amazing the folks who showed up for this debut issue and how many are still in the PNW and continuing to create comics or art in one way or another. This is a strong contributor list.
