The cover for issue two was beautifully create by Tony Ong, who at the time was one of Fantagraphics Books designers. Tony went onto win an Eisner Award for design of the Complete ZAP boxed set.
My piece was just a organic mess of a drawing, but I threw down on a couple of jams in this issue.
Darin Shuler with another beaute! His latest childrens book Dog & Hat and the Lunar Eclipse is on pre-order at this moment. Don’t miss out on it.
It’s a trip to imagine who has come through and participated in Dune minicomics. At the time A. Degen was showing up and had not been published by Koyama Press. I only remember interacting with them across the table as we jammed on some pages, seen below.
I started the jam on the right after we had a little debate with the folk musicians who were trying to have a weekly folk jam night at the Café Racer. Even at the second month of Dune, we had the place full up and very little room left for folkers to set up and play next to our heads. We eventually co-mingled well enough, but for years they defended their position on Tuesday nights.
John O knows how to capture the scene. He’s a masterful painter who can paint the dark interiors of a bar and you immediately feel like you’ve been there. Be sure to look him up and enjoy his comics or paintings. A daily strip artist who’s surviving the best he can as an elder underground cartoonist.

I’m going to show off the 3rd issue of Dune minicomics, but then I want to begin highlighting the issues that I have a collection of Dune issues along with the abandoned artwork. I’m going to reach out to those I can contact and then maybe through this medium perhaps I can rejoin the artists and their work after all these years.
